Introducing New Guidelines for Submitting

Works to the Scotiabank Giller Prize

December 5, 2016

Publishers, please note!

As of the 2017 cycle of the Scotiabank Giller Prize, we have implemented some changes that will affect how you make submissions to the prize. These amendments seek to reconcile the abundance of fine Canadian literature with the very real constraints of the limited time frame the jury has at its disposal to complete the reading.

These undertakings are principally in response to the very thoughtful feedback we’ve received from our juries over the years. In their deliberations, jurors must balance careful consideration of the books with the imposed time frame in which to allow such consideration.

We have consulted with comparable national and international literary prizes who grapple with the same issue – how to give the jury enough time to properly attend to each book while at the same time ensuring that no good books get overlooked. We believe the amendments address these very pressing issues head-on.

The full details, rules and entry forms for the 2017 Scotiabank Giller Prize are here.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

I anticipate another great year ahead and look forward to working closely with you, as always.

Sincerely,

Elana Rabinovitch
