We’ll be sending this newsletter out periodically throughout the year in addition to our regular communications about Giller Prize deadlines, milestones and announcements.
The purpose of this communique is to provide you with fingertip access to any and all Giller-related news. We will strive to highlight noteworthy developments as the Giller cycle – from early in the calendar year with the jury announcement, to November’s black tie ceremony to honour the finalists and select a winner – unfolds.
Books on their way to the jury
We’re delighted to announce that this year, for the first time in the Giller’s 21 year history, a five-person jury panel has been appointed, up from our customary three. Learn more here about jury chair John Boyne and his fellow 2015 Scotiabank Giller Prize jurors Cecil Foster, Alexander MacLeod, Helen Oyeyemi and Alison Pick.
Juror Helen Oyeyemi caught reading in a beach-y state of mind
For the last six months, Boyne, Foster, MacLeod, Oyeyemi and Pick have been making their way through piles of books. They have been devouring all the glorious 2015 CanLit titles contending for this year’s prize. We can’t wait to learn what they have decided, starting with the longlist announcement on Wednesday, September 9th at McGill University in Montreal (and livestreamed from www.scotiabankgillerprize.ca).
We’re so pleased that last year’s Giller winner Sean Michaels will preside over the longlist event in Montreal. As well, graphic artist Sara Heppner-Waldston will once again bring the longlist titles to life in striking fashion.
Which CanLit titles will be unveiled on the 2015 Scotiabank Giller Prize longlist …?
Every year, our Crazy for CanLit feature gives booklovers the chance to sample and discuss the best books of the Canadian publishing season. All the books of the literary calendar are displayed and are eligible for the Scotiabank Giller Prize for that year. Any one of them could be entered to become that year’s winner! We often use the Crazy for CanLit collection as a platform for discussions, contests and more.
The 2015 Crazy for CanLit collection is now available on Pinterest and on the Scotiabank Giller Prize web site. Check them out, add them to your collection, create a reading list, borrow them from the library, purchase them – celebrate CanLit’s latest offerings! Better yet, get creative with those reading lists and collections and enter your 2015 Crazy for CanLit-inspired board or list or blog post, and you could win 2015 longlisted and shortlisted books, or tickets to Scotiabank Giller Prize events near you. Get all the details here!
The 2014 Scotiabank Giller Prize finalists take part in a lively discussion during the Between the Pages event at Koerner Hall in Toronto.
